Parc Andre Citroen, Paris’ best park for kids

Parc Andre Citroen, Paris’ best park for kids

It was a beautiful, balmy, sunny, September afternoon. Simply perfect for hanging out in one of Paris’ newer parks, Parc Andre Citroen, which is possibly one of Paris’ best parks for kids.

Parc Andre Citroen is situated on the left bank of the river Seine, built on the site of an old Citroen car factory.  The park is distinctly angular in design, very different from Jardin du Luxembourg or Les Tuileries which is what you might expect from a Parisian park, think ornate sculptures, pretty flower beds, pony rides and carousels.

Parc Andre Citroen has two greenhouses for exotic and Mediterranean plants; there is a dancing fountain, perfect for unleashing hot sweaty kids; a series of smaller gardens each distinctly different, even a Garden of Movement which has wild grasses that move differently to the changing speed of the wind. Kids can enjoy two playgrounds, an area for ball-games, ping-pong tables and there is plenty of space to whizz around on skateboards, scooters and bikes.

Fizzy water on tap

And only in France could there be water fountains that provide ice-cold, fizzy water. We discovered this at Parc Andre Citroen. The kids loved it.

In its efforts to combat waste Paris has introduced sparkling water fountains. There are in total six sparkling water fountains across Paris making up a total of 1,200 water fountains across the city. There’s even an app for your phone to help you locate your nearest water point.

As well as Parc Andre Citroen, the other sparkling water fountains in Paris can be found at:

Up, up and away in the world’s biggest hot air balloon (so they say)

acballoon3

Since the end of the 90s Parc Andre Citron has housed the Ballon Generali, apparently, it is the biggest hot air balloon in world, from which you can get a bird’s eye view of Paris. We haven’t taken a balloon flight in Paris yet, but it’s on our ‘must do this in Paris list’.

Rides are from six euros for children and twelve euros for adults.

This particular September afternoon, it was too windy for the balloon to take off, and we were far too busy skateboarding, running in and out of fountains and lapping up the last of the summer sun.
