It's that time for Christmas baking.

A little challenge for myself was to create a Christmas image that wasn't. well, you know not too Christmassy.

The perfect recipe was Claire Ptak's @violetbakery candy cane chocolate chip cookies.

The recipe itself is fabulous.

I made 12 delightfully chewy cookies into which crushed peppermint candy canes are crumbled into.

When they bake the crushed canes ooze into cookies. The whole candy cane thing just screams American cookies!

I wanted to get away from the overly Christmas feel. I wanted to lighten the mood, and create something more fun.

I wanted the image to be more restrained, more minimal, yet with just a twang of Christmas.

I ditched the deep red and green and chose a pink and light green palette. And the nod to Christmas is just a few candy canes.

Christmas....Bring it on!

This house is on a semi-urban street, a tree-lined

This house is on a semi-urban street, a tree-lined road, with rows of uniform houses.

It's a forlorn house, no one lives in it, no one to live in it, no memories made in it. The garden wall is crumbling, the front yard is full of junk, the door is discarded, paint peeling away.

I have walked passed this door many times, it was on my school run walk and yet I had never noticed it.

I've been doing a small exercise, challenging myself to see. To develop what they call my photographer's eye, and spot, small incidental detail. Details that would normally pass us by, just like this door.

This time I spotted it, stopped looked and found beauty in the distress and captured the moment. Who knows what will happen to the house, maybe a family will move in and this house will become a home.

Throw back to Spain, in October, and the photography retreat in @fincabuenvino with two glorious photographers @joannamaclennanphotography @clinchpics of @twophotographers

One afternoon we downed tools to go quince picking, gathering subjects for our still life challenge.

Fellow photographer @lisa_flood_photography_ spotted a little battered jalopy which became the perfect prop for these gorgeous fruit. (Lisa has an amazing eye 👁 for a great shot!)

No styling needed.

Everything was simply perfect!

It was only a week ago I got back from the @twopho

It was only a week ago I got back from the @twophotographers2020 retreat in Andalusia, Spain.

The retreat was an immersive, creative, artistic experience the results of which I am still processing.

I got back to London exhausted, exhilarated and excited about the journey ahead as I expand my practice.

The retreat opened my eyes to the power of visual storytelling and to photographing subjects beyond food.

I tried new genres, as they say in film, portraits, travel photography, interiors. I loved all of them, and will be incorporating them into my work.

I got to experiment with my first passion, food photography. I challenged myself and was challenged to re-think my approach and style.

I’ve got a list of new and exciting burgeoning projects which I can’t wait to get stuck into! And I can’t wait to share these with you.

Even in pouring rain this place is magical!

Shake it up a bit.

Have fun with a little make-believe.

I had a frustrating day trying to shoot some drinks with artificial light. Nothing was working, Everything was just meh.

I hate meh.

I wanted something different. You, know to go kerpow!

So I got out of my rut, changed up my angles and thought what the hell - let's just see what happens.

A couple of glasses waiting at the bar, will you join me?
