Want great coffee with cute cats in Paris?

Want great coffee with cute cats in Paris? Posted on August 20, 201633 Comments

You can at Chat Mallows , it is the perfect spot if you are in need of great coffee with cute, adorable, furry friends right here in Paris.  Chat Mallows, cat café is where Super Girl and I decided to spend a little quality mama and daughter time, with 15 feline companions.

As you sit quietly and sip your cappuccino and nibble on your chocolate brownie you will notice that in every nook and corner there appears to be a ball of fur nestled quietly and watching you intently. These residents, may on occasion, if the urge takes them, walk around, investigate what you’re up to, or completely ignore you.  This café belongs to the cats, you are simply the guest.

Of course you can stroke them, take pictures of them, we all want a selfie with a cute cat, but you can’t pick them up or startle them.

Chat Mallows feels a little out of place here in this quiet part of Paris. Stepping inside, you might think you were in Tokyo or Hackney – that painfully trendy part of London.

The cat café concept started in 1998 in Taiwan and quickly spread across south-east Asia before hitting Europe, US, Mexico, Australia and New Zealand.  The first cat café in Paris was Café des Chats, which is still in the Marais and the Bastille – the hip parts of Paris.

But back to the cats.

Each has been specially selected for its docile nature, or ability to live with other cats. There are even some Sphynx cats – the ones that are completely butt naked!

The café is completely hygienic, all food and drinks are prepared in a cat free area, and there’s plenty of alcohol gel available as you enter and leave.

Chat Mallow also doubles up as cat furniture show room – everything is for sale. Does Fluffy need a new bed?

    1. I’m sure you would love this place. They were really cute cats, and very used to being around people even the Sphynx which felt a little like a super soft handbag!

  1. I can’t lie – the idea of this kind of makes me cringe. I don’t think I would want to eat or drink in a place crawling with cat hairs. On the other hand though, I always say each to their own, and if there’s a market for this, then good on the owners for making it work. I would love to have great coffee (or let’s face it, even mediocre coffee would do) in Paris though!
Thanks for linking up to #AnythingGoes 🙂

    1. I love your honesty! I will say when I went it was pretty clean and the coffee was good. But I totally get why some people wouldn’t like it – thanks for the comment!

  2. Oh wow, I absolutely want to go!!!! I adore cats, and so do my children! This sounds just perfect!! I hope you are loving living in Paris-I was only thinking this morning of the times I’ve spent in Paris-an amazing meal me and my husband had in an Etheopian restaurant there, and the times I visited as a child when I had an uncle who lived there. I’d love to visit with my children, and this would without a doubt, be top of my list of places to visit!!

    1. Thank you! I do hope you come and visit, there are so many amazing things to do here for kids. Get Paris ticked off your list soon!

  3. Well I’ve never heard of anything like this before. I have to say I’m not a huge cat fan so i would probably have to give it a miss. Sounds very unique though got cat lovers x

  4. The kids and I would love this, but hubby wouldn’t lol, in fact he’s just been explaining to me why he thinks there should be a law to stop people keeping more than 1 (nothing to do with your post – just a coincidental rant!) What an interesting place to visit 🙂

    1. I can imagine a place like this can cause some controversy but I do think the cats are well looked after here. Obvs a great place for a cat lover! (Not my husband who is allergic to doggies!)
